Port Weller: A St. Catharines Neighbourhood Deep Dive

Port Weller is a peaceful and picturesque neighbourhood located on the eastern edge of St. Catharines. The neighbourhood is bounded by Lake Ontario to the north and east, and the Welland Canal to the south, offering residents stunning views of the lake and canal. The area is predominantly residential and offers a range of housing options, including mostly single family homes. The neighbourhood is known for its well-manicured lawns, mature trees, and peaceful atmosphere, making it an attractive location for families and retirees alike.


Sunset Beach

Sunset Beach has to be one of the best hidden gems in Niagara and it's located right in Port Weller, St. Catharines. This large yet secluded beach is often referred to as the best-kept secret in Niagara and is a favourite spot among locals. The beach offers stunning views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline in the distance, making it an ideal spot for you guessed it... watching the sunset.

Sunset Beach is a great place to relax and unwind. The beach is generally quiet and peaceful, and the gentle waves of Lake Ontario provide a soothing background soundtrack. The sand is soft and cleaned regularly by the municipality, and the water is perfect for swimming on hot summer days.


In addition to swimming and sunbathing, Sunset Beach offers a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. The beach has several picnic tables and a large grassy area, making it an ideal spot for picnicking and barbecuing with friends and family. The beach area has a large parking lot and just got a brand new bathroom facilities put in. There's also a playground, making it a great spot for families with young children.


Sunset Beach is also a popular destination for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. The calm waters of Lake Ontario and the secluded nature of the beach make it a great spot for beginners to try their hand at these water sports.


Attractions & Amenities within Port Weller


Happy Rolph's Animal Farm:

This popular attraction is a petting zoo and park that is home to a variety of animals, including goats, rabbits, ducks, and pigs. It's a great place to bring kids for a fun and educational experience. It's also a wonderful wonderful park to enjoy and explore for an easy hike on the trails.


MJ's Own Munchies:

This local snack shack has actually made it really big! It is a favourite among locals for its delicious grub nested right in the beautiful orchards of Niagara.

Valley Restaurant: This family-owned restaurant has been serving up delicious food for over 30 years. They offer a range of menu options, including classic Canadian dishes, seafood, and vegetarian options.


Malcolmson Eco Park:

Malcomson Eco Park is a beautiful and serene park located in Port Weller, St. Catharines. This park is situated along the shoreline of Lake Ontario and offers visitors stunning views of the water. The park features very easy walking trails, picnic areas, and a playground, making it a great spot for families to enjoy. The walking trails wind through the park and offer visitors the chance to explore the natural beauty of the area, including wetlands, meadows, and forests. The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including birds, turtles, and frogs, making it a great spot for nature lovers.


St. Catharines Marina - Port Weller:

This marina is a popular spot for boating enthusiasts. It offers boat slips, boat rentals, and other amenities for those looking to enjoy the water.


Walkers Creek:

This creek runs through Port Weller and offers beautiful trails and homes if you're looking for something with no rear neighbours ;)


Welland Canal:

This famous canal runs through Port Weller and is an impressive feat of engineering. Visitors can watch ships pass through the canal and learn about its history at the nearby museum.


In terms of real estate, Port Weller offers a mix of housing options, with primarily detached homes that sell for an average of $795,000. These north end homes typically have around 50 feet of frontage but also have some rather small "cottage type" homes right near Sunset Beach. These lots are quite quaint (aka small and cozy) but personally I think this neighbourhood is going to be getting a lot of attention over the next decade and see some seriously home renovations throughout that time.
